BS&B, the world’s leading authority in the design and manufacturing of pressure relief devices, will showcase its Chemical Isolation and Suppression Systems from the company’s Industrial Protection Devices Division (IPD).
The IPD system provides explosion protection for process manufacturing plants handling combustible powders. The system meets stringent requirements of NFPA 654 – 2006 edition; NFPA 68 – 2007 edition; and NFPA 69 – 2007 edition (proposed). Four components are included in the system:
- Power Supply with battery backup
- Monitoring module to indicate system status/drive external relays
- Unitized Sensor to detect the onset of an explosion
- Suppression Cannons that deliver the food quality Sodium Bicarbonate suppression agent into the equipment to be protected.

The cannons can be installed directly onto process equipment or connecting ductwork at any angle avoiding the need for heavy extension piping & nozzles for the dispersion of suppressant. The low mass and compact size of the cannons allow for easy installations, even at locations with competing heavy and bulky equipment causing cramped applications. The Cannons are also mounted flush to the process equipment wall, excellent for clean service applications.

The IPD Service Team is available 24/7 to support new system installation, on-site refurbishment of activated suppression systems, to conduct the periodic audits required by NFPA codes, and to provide maintenance training and telephone assistance.
